Exam Policies & Retesting Rules

  • No-Show / Rescheduling Fees: If you miss your scheduled ProctorU exam session, or if you need to reschedule less than 24 hours before your appointment, you will be required to pay a fee before rescheduling.
  • Retesting Policy: If you do not pass the exam, you must purchase a new exam access code.
  • Attempts 1 & 2: Can be taken within a 30-day period.
  • Attempts 3+: You must wait at least 60 days from your last attempt.
  • Maximum of 4 attempts allowed within any 12-month period.

Ohio users must submit additional documentation to the state to finalize certification. You must submit:

  1. An application for the Ohio Department of Health Manager Certification in Food Protection.1
  2. Your ServSafe® Manager Record of Training (earned upon completion of the online course).

Q: How long is the ServSafe® Manager certification valid?

The Food Protection Manager Certification is valid for 5 years from your exam passing date.

Q: Can I take the exam on an iPad or Chromebook?

No. The ProctorU online proctoring software requires a full desktop or laptop computer running Windows or macOS. Tablets, Chromebooks, and mobile phones are strictly unsupported.

Q: What happens if I fail the exam on my first try?

You can review the material and retake the exam. However, you will need to purchase a new exam access code and adhere to the official ServSafe® Retesting Policy (maximum of two attempts within 30 days).

Q: When will I get my exam access code?
